Following the autism training session, Compagnia San Michele organized a joint activity with the Prisims group Bliss which caters to youths with autism. This group is a safe space for young people on the spectrum, giving them a space to socialize and make friends. Compagnia San Michele organized a two-part session focusing on the senses. This is the first time Compagnia San Michele has delivered such an audience-specific session. The aim of this session is for the members to be able to deliver good-quality product with the same content we usually offer but tailored to the needs of our audience.
Part I - Sensory Table
This part of the session was dedicated to discovery learning. The youths were invited to interact with the object replicas played out on the table. The nature of the objects gave them the opportunity to explore the objects with their senses, as these varied in size, metals, and shape.
After interacting with the object our members face a short explanation of the different materials and uses. This was intended as a means for exploratory learning.
Part II - Egg Tempera Painting
The process of making paint is an interesting and tactile one. During this part of the session, young people made and applied paint to historical copies of woodblock prints. Some participants described the workshop as giving them an ASMR experience which they found very calming.
